Welcome

Cynthia Post, Ph.D.

How do you go from feeling overwhelmed and lost to clarity and a solid sense of self?

Contemplating this journey informs my work as a psychotherapist.  In my experience, the single most important factor that leads to significant change is the development of a trusting client-therapist relationship.  This allows trust in new possibilities, and seeing yourself differently and considering this new sense of self.  I liken therapy to reorganizing heavy furniture in a room and in some cases getting rid of pieces altogether.  The furniture represents the client's view of self.  With acceptance and empathic curiosity, change can begin.

My clients include many older adolescents who are entering adulthood.  I also work extensively with women of all ages, including women who have been abused as children. Men's issues, family relationships, couples, divorce and related step-family issues are all strong areas of interest as well.

I have trained in a variety of therapies affording me the opportunity to work with different populations and treatment techniques.  My initial and recent training was psychodynamic, followed by exposure to family therapy.  Couples therapy from a self -psychological approach, a branch of psychoanalytic theory, is a current focus.

The way I think about people is psychodyanmic.  I think the past informs the present.  The way I translate this into how I help people varies.  I utilize techniques from different schools of thought including cognitive, behavioral, and insight oriented.  If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Please call or email me for an individual, couples or family therapy consultation.
